Antique chandelier circa 1840
An amazing very large and beautiful chandelier French circa 1840 with silk hand made shades on their original frames . A very fine previously gilded brass frame supports 8 arms previously for candles , Now wired for electricity using small SBC golf ball bulbs ( the shades clip on ) The glass flats are carved in the greek Iota - eta - sigma which is an eclesiastical symbol Translated to the roman IHS. The greek eta looking like the Roman H ) This chandelier probably dates 1840 and would have been either in a church or a pilgrim chapel , hospital or as a centre piece for a family hall way , bought in Lyon we assume from the Aveyron region .
